The 2014/68/EU Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) of the European Parliament and Council of 15 May 2014 outlines certain regulations for pressure measuring instruments sold in the European Union. It states that any such instruments with a maximum permissible pressure (PS) greater than 0.5 bar must comply with the PED, effective from 30th May 2002 onwards. Regarding Thermo-Electra’s thermowells, the PED does not apply to them as they do not contain fluids under pressure or transport them. Therefore, they are not considered “pressure-containing equipment” under the Pressure Equipment Directive. However, there is an exception for thermowells that are suitable for inline mounting in pipes, such as models TW61 and TR25, as they are considered components within pressure equipment and must comply with the PED. As a result, these components do not need to be marked with CE in accordance with guideline A-22.
